Holy Name University President Fr. Ruel F. Lero, SVD, PhD signed the appointment of Retired Judge Marivic A. Trabajo-Daray as the new Dean of the College of Law, effective October 1, 2023.
Dean Daray was the presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 18 in Digos City. She had been a judge for more than 22 years, assigned in different RTC Branches in Digos City, General Santos City, Panabo City, Davao City, Tagum City, Cebu City, and Talibon, Bohol.
When she was first appointed RTC Judge on July 3, 2000, she was the youngest RTC Judge ever appointed for the said position since she was only 36 years old. During her term as a judge at General Santos City, she was the judge who handed down the first conviction worldwide of an Al Qaeda operative under the Jemmah Islamiyah Group.
She is a lecturer at the Philippine Judicial Academy of the Supreme Court and a member of the Committee on the Revision of the Benchbook for Judges at the Supreme Court of the Philippines where she authored the subjects on Summary Procedure and Case Management. She was also a Professor of Law at the Ateneo de Davao College of Law for almost 25 years handling both substantive and procedural law subjects. She had also lectured and made presentations on various topics here in the Philippines and abroad.
Prior to her appointment as judger, she worked for the Office of the Ombudsman in Mindanao as graft investigation and prosecution officer for more than ten years, where she received the “Most Outstanding Lawyer” Award.
Dean Daray holds a Bachelor of Law/Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila University and both a BA in History and a Master in Management degree from the University of the Philippines. She also finished through international scholarships several short courses on leadership, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law.
In 2007, she was a fellow of the Asia Pacific Leadership Program given by the US Department of State at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was also granted a scholarship in 2008 on the course International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law given by the University of California-Berkeley War Crimes Study Center at the University of Mahidol, Bangkok, Thailand. In 2009, the Netherlands Government awarded her a scholarship where she studied International Criminal Law at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies of the Leiden University at The Hague, Netherlands.
In 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024, she was an international judge at the International Moot Court Competition sponsored by the Leiden University, the International Criminal Court, and the International Bar Association at The Hague, Netherlands. She also judged the Philippine Jessup Moot Court Competition in 2023, 2024 and 2025 and was one of the international judges for the White and Case International Moot Court Competition in April 2023.
