Emergency and Disaster Training for BSN Students

The Telephone and Radio System Integrated Emergency Response (T.a.R.S.I.E.R. 117) conducted five sessions of Basic Emergency and Disaster Training to the Level IV Nursing Students last August 1-3 and August 8-9, 2016 at the Nursing Skills Laboratory.

Mark Sidney D. Galia, the Head EMS and at the same time the Training Director of T.a.R.S.I.E.R. 117, conducted the training as main trainor. John Alfred Ramirez assisted Mr. Galia in the said activity. The last part of the training was a simulation of a bombing incident where the student trainees were expected to apply what they have learned from the lectures especially on performing First-Aid and the Standard Operating Procedures during disasters. An evaluation of the students' performance was done after the simulation to let them know their strong and weak points. The T.a.R.S.I.E.R. 117 Chief Operations Officer, Meinard T. Butalid, RN was the guest of honor during the culmination program.

The said activity was conducted to provide the students opportunities for "actual experiences" to ensure competencies in caring for clients with acute biologic crisis and those with emergency situations.
